Welcome to Churchill Ciders.
Spalding Scrumpy is made from 100% fresh pressed juice using locally grown apples. Most of the apples are windfalls <scrumped> and each batch may contain up to 6 or 7 different apple varieties. This can provide a different flavour with each bottle you try, something you cannot get from the mainstream producers.
Although no guarantees can be made regarding the apples being organically grown, nearly all the sites from which I collect are privately owned and to the best of my knowledge none of the trees are treated in any way, the yield not being of the utmost importance to the owners. Most of the trees are somewhat neglected therefore highly unlikely to be sprayed/treated.
Remember, no preservatives, colourants or chemicals used. No sulphites are used to kill the yeast and the cider is not filtered therefore a slight sediment may form, this is perfectly natural and is not detrimental to the flavour/taste.
Here is the new label I will be using this coming season. Its a watercolour of my press with a couple of tulips in the background. Spalding being famous for its tulips. The artwork was done by local artist Tony Quinton.
Below are the old labels that were used.
Naturally made cider is a living product, therefore a sediment is sometimes formed. To enjoy your cider at its best, store upright, serve chilled and pour carefully.
